Watching the USA hockey team get shutout 1-0 by team Canada was disappointing to say the least. When your team gets shut out it’s tough to appreciate the fine defense or play of your goalie. Jonathan Quick played outstanding in net and left no second guessing as to whether he got the nod over Ryan Miller. It was on offense where the Americans got stymied.

Canada outplayed the USA for the first two periods and only the play of Quick kept the game close. Canada pressed the attack and kept team USA on their heels for most of the first forty minutes.

In the third period the Americans played with more desperation and leveled the ice surface looking for the tying goal. It never came.

Now the Americans play a very plucky Finnish team for the Bronze and that’s hardly in the bag.

In 24 hours the USA suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the woman’s Gold Medal game against Canada and a semi-final shutout loss to the Canadian men. Our good friends to the north were hardly friendly on the ice and still own the distinction of being the best hockey power in the World. At least until the men play Sweden Sunday in the Gold Medal game. A loss there and team Canada will quickly forget about another win over the guys wearing the red, white and blue.
