The Niagara County Community College nationally 3rd ranked Thunderwolves continued their superior play over the weekend to easily win the NJCAA Region III title with a 10-3 championship pounding of number 9 ranked Herkimer.

The NCCC Thunderwolves ran their record to 43-5 with the win and out scored their regional opponents over the weekend by a total of 21 runs.

Head coach and Niagara Falls native Matt Clingersmith told the Lockport Sun that this is one of his finest teams. “The best team is still the 2012 team that got to the national championship game,” Clingersmith said. “But this is the best all-around team we’ve ever had in regional play.”

The Thunderwolves were led by outfielder Joe Milkowski, who was named MVP of the regional tournament after going 10 for 12 with two home runs and six RBIs in the three games.

“I’ve never seen a weekend like that in a regional before,” Clingersmith told the Lockport Sun.

In the championship game sophomore shortstop Mike Colosi of Niagara Falls knocked in the first run scored twice more. A two-run double from Milkowski put NCCC ahead 3-0 after two innings. Chase hit a two-run homer to make it 5-0 in the top of the fourth.

The Thunderwolves will travel to in Kinston, North Caroline next weekend in pursuit of the NJCAA national title.
