The Buffalo Sabres again struggled offensively as Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo shut them out in a 3-0 victory.

Luongo made 25 saves and while Brad Richardson, Chris Higgins and Ryan Stanton scored for the Canucks (5-3-0), who are off to their best start since opening 2005 at 6-1-1.

The Sabres are now 1-7-1 and have yet to win a game on their home ice. In fact, the fans at the First Niagara Center showed their displeasure as they booed the team off the ice after the second period and chanted “Fire Darcy” after Vancouver’s third goal.

Rumors of Regier’s demise have been flatly denied by the Sabres and Regier declined comment after the game.

Sabres Coach Ron Rolston did however face the music after the game and said “If we don’t play the right way, they’re creating their own frustration,” Rolston said. “So they’ve got to figure that out.”

Ryan Miller made 31 saves for the Sabres but declined to speak to reporters after the loss.

It was the second time the Sabres have been shutout this season and the seventh time they scored one goal or fewer.
