Buffalo Sabres GM Tim Murray had a very busy day and night, trading for Ryan O’Reilly and Jamie McGinn from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for center Mikhail Grigorenko, defenseman Nikita Zadorov, prospect J.T. Compher and the 31st pick in the NHL Draft.

Surprisingly Colorado traded away O’Reilly, considered an up and coming star at the age of 24 in the NHL, but there was concern with signing him long term. O’Reilly is entering he final year of a two season $12 million deal and will be a restricted free agent in 2016.

O’Reilly had 17 goals and 55 points in 82 games this year and won the Lady Byng Award as most gentlemanly player in 2013-14, when he had 28 goals and 64 points.

Jamie McGinn is a left winger and scored 69 goals and 128 points in his 366 games. McGinn is 26 years old.
