Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer, a national name in High School wrestling since his “Flying Squirrel” take down video went viral on All Sports WNY’s Youtube page, has injured his knee and is out for the remainder of the season.

Renaldo injured his knee at the ECIC tournament on way to winning the 145 Championship and the injury turned out to be more serious than initially diagnosed. Renaldo’s father, Todd Rodriguez-Spencer, told New York Wrestling News “He has been banged up all season, dealing with injuries that sidelined him at Fargo. It’s really disappointing, because he wanted to finish strong. But it would be more disappointing if he didn’t accomplish his goals of winning a state title and getting a college scholarship.  Fortunately, he was able to do those things.  He’s put in so much hard work, in wrestling and in academics, where he is on the honor roll. Hopefully he is healthy for Senior Nationals in Virginia Beach and FILA Juniors Nationals in Las Vegas in April,” Todd Rodriguez-Spencer said. “He has goals to win those too before he goes to college.”

Spencer, the 2013 132 lb. Div II State Champion, is ranked number one in New York State at 145 lbs. and is ranked nationally. The Cheektowaga Senior has committed to wrestling at Div I Iowa State in College.
