Buffalo Bills Coach Doug Marrone has already learned from week one of Training Camp. It was then that Coach Marrone stood in front of the media and said he did not know which foot was bothering Mario Williams causing him to leave camp. When pressed on the matter Coach Marrone showed some angst towards the reporter and demonstrated what the media in Syracuse had called a “thin skin”.

Now this past week Coach Marrone has provided the assembled reporters all the info they could possibly write down about quarterback EJ Manuel’s knee injury. Coach Doug Marrone has demonstrated that he can adjust to situations as quickly as the no-huddle offense Coach Hackett is running.

The Bills in general have shown encouraging signs of being a better football team than the one Chan Gailey left behind. The Defense in particular has looked aggressive and physical, something lacking last season.

Offensively I don’t believe we have seen much from what Hackett is planning for the regular season and in particular for the New England Patriots. The no-huddle should be quicker and the pass routes longer. Coach Belichick is certainly wondering what to expect come September 8th here at the Ralph.

Speaking of the Bills, good news that safety Jarius Byrd is in camp. With over two weeks to go before the opener Byrd can get into football shape and learn Coach Pettine’s defense. If Byrd had waited until the week of the opener he could have been a liability against the Patriots in the new “D”.

Changing gears to the UB Bulls, I recently interviewed football Coach Jeff Quinn and he is a joy. I don’t know how well UB will do on the football field this season but it won’t be for a lack of enthusiasm from their head coach. After the interview our WBBZ-TV crew was packing up and Coach Quinn went over to an intern we had helping out and asked,” Our you the clean-up guy?” The young man smiled and nodded. Coach Quinn then went into a Knute Rockne speech, yelling ” That’s great, we need clean-up guys to win, we can’t do without clean-up guys!” You gotta love that kind of fire and he’ll need it against the Buckeyes on the 31st.
