The Niagara Falls Education Foundation is holding the inaugural Cataract Hockey Classic on December 27th & 28th at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion. The inaugural event will have four teams, Niagara Falls, Lew-Port, Sweet Home and Grand Island from Section Six. Rounding out the field will be Hilton and Victor from Section Five (Rochester).

The annual tournament will be held each year as a fund raiser for the Niagara Falls Education Foundation and proceeds go towards scholarships for Niagara Falls High School senior graduates. The event is generously sponsored by the Niagara Falls Coach Lines.

Game schedule and times are below:

Friday December 27th

  • 8:00pm-9:30pm (Rink 1) Sweet Home vs Victor
  • 9:30pm-11:00pm (Rink 1) Grand Island vs Niagara Falls
  • 9:15pm-10:45pm (Rink 2) Lew-Port vs Hilton

Saturday December 28th

  • 9:30am-11:00am (Rink 1) Lew-Port vs Sweet Home
  • 11:00am-12:30pm (Rink 1) Niagara Falls vs Victor
  • 12:30pm-2:00pm (Rink 1) Grand Island vs Hilton

Tournament Information

  • Each period is worth one point.  Ties worth ½ point.
  • Winning game worth two points.   (5 minute overtime, shootout if necessary).
  • Each game worth total of 5 points.
  • First tie-breaker goals against differential.
  • Second tie-breaker, total goals from two games played.
  • Each team will be home/away once, please bring two sets of jerseys.

  • Each away team (Hilton and Victor) has a block of 9 rooms.

Team Breakfast

  • Out of town teams will have breakfast at team hotel at Antonio’s banquet facility located within the Quality Inn.
  • Local teams will have breakfast snacks available in Stone Room/Back room at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion.  Coffee, juice, bagels, etc will be provided.
