Today’s story by Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News revealing that Bill Polian would re-consider a role with the Buffalo Bills is like finding that special surprise at the bottom of your Christmas stocking. Polian is football royalty in this town and just the mention of his name brings hope to suffering Bills’ fans.

At the end of last season Bill Polian first considered, then passed on the position  of “Football Czar” offered by Terry Pegula. Polian’s decision to pass on the job was in part because he didn’t want to spoil his chances of getting in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and also because his wife wasn’t on board with moving away from family and back to Buffalo. Now being a member of the HOF, Polian could accept the position of “football consultant” and would not have to maintain an office in town.

Should Terry Pegula again extend an offer to Polian it could also include more of Bill’s family. Son Chris is Director of Player Personnel in Jacksonville and Brian is head coach of University of Nevada-Reno. It could be quite the reunion back beloved Buffalo for the Polian boys.

The arrival of Bill Polian would jeopordize Doug Whaley’s tenure with the team and several others in the football department. It would also put Rex Ryan’s position as Head Coach on the clock. Polian is not a big fan of Ryan’s capibilities as the top man.

Whatever happens it’s a glimmer of hope for a franchise that is facing yet another disappointing season with no prospects for improvement next season. It’s a bit of Christmas cheer that Bills fans need this year more than ever.
