Niagara County Community College sophomore Troy Keller became the program’s fifth-ever National Champion at this past weekend’s NJCAA Wrestling Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Keller joins past NCCC champions Willie Moore (1977), Mark Jurek (1989), Dan Uhteg (1991) and Rashad Evans (2000). 

Keller, who went a perfect 5-0 at the tournament, also broke the school’s all-time wins record with 90 victories to his credit. The previous mark was 88 held by Shay Shive. In addition, Keller also holds the record for the most technical falls (39) in school history. 

Here’s a look at Keller’s dominant run at 165 pounds:

Round 1: d. Anmar Al-Abolidi (Henry Ford CC), 16-1 tech. fall

Round 2: d. Sangobunmi Smith (Iowa Lakes CC), 11-2 major dec.

Quarterfinals: d. Justin Anderson (Northeastern JC), pin (0:55)

Semifinals: d. Michial Foy (Harper College), pin (1:03)

Finals: d. Wyatt Jordan (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M), 10-0 major dec.

Keller’s classmate John Riena also earned NJCAA All-American honors, finishing in 8th place at 149 pounds. He earned the honor after winning four matches on Friday.

Other participants for NCCC included: Matt Genau (125), C.J. Walz (133), Jacob Bell (141), Jaelen Jean (157), Adam Mateo (174), Sergio Crespo (184) and Eugene Latson III (197).
