ESPN is reporting that Jets Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine has been hired by new Bills Coach Doug Marrone as his Defensive Coordinator. Pettine would come to the Bills with a great reputation and body of work in New York where the Jets’ defense ranked first, third, fifth and eighth in yards allowed over the past four seasons.

Jest Coach Rex Ryan was not happy about the prospects of coaching against Pettine should he take the job in Buffalo. “I hope he doesn’t take that job,” Ryan said. “I hope he goes somewhere else. Mike and I have been together for over 10 years, he’s a tremendous coach. We had the conversations, and Mike thinks it’s best that he go to a different team as defensive coordinator, and I wish him all the best unless he goes to Buffalo. But I love Mike, and I respect him.”

The Bills also hired Marrone’s Offensive Coordinator at Syracuse Nathaniel Hackett, to be the new Coordinator with Buffalo. Hackett worked for Bills Coach Dick Jauron for two years as a quality control coach and then served with Marrone at Syracuse for two years as his Offensive Coordiantor. Hackett is the the son of former USC Trojans and Pitt Panthers head coach Paul Hackett.
