Doug Marrone

DON’T GET ME STARTED was surprised when Bills coach Doug Marrone reportedly indicated he is worried about the backup quarterbacks on the roster.

Hold on there; take a deep breath fans; hold back the snickers and the laughter after watching the laugher that Tampa slapped on the Bills Saturday afternoon.

Marrone should be more worried about E.J. Manuel who was simply brutal in the first half against the Bucs #1 defense. Oh, he played into the 3rd quarter against 2nd and 3rd stringers to complete passes. But the first half told the story.

When you consider that Manuel had done nothing in the previous 3 games where he guided the Bills to ZERO touchdowns, running or passing.

That’s what Marrone should be worried about. He’s had 2 years in which to develop him and he’s stuck with him. Can anyone define the Bills offense?

The Bills G.M. Whaley didn’t do Bills fans a favor when he traded a 1st round pick in 2015 in order to secure the highly touted Clemson receiver Watkins.

Watkins is a tremendous receiver but he needs a quarterback to get him the ball. That #1 pick Whaley gave up next year will cost him a good quarterback. In the 2015 draft, there will be about 5 good ones who will make it in the NFL led by Marcus Mariota of Oregon. The Bills won’t have a chance at any of them unless they secure a #1 pick through a trade this year. Maybe dangling CJ Spiller with someone else could induce a team needing a running back to make the deal.

Oh one more thing about the News column where Marrone is quoted as saying he worries about the backup QBs. He said that he inserted little known QB Dixon in the 4th quarter to secure the ball. What?????? Manuel had 3 turnovers in the first half when Tampa put the game away. What about Manuel not securing the ball?

If Manuel continues on his pre-season path of great inconsistency than his security may be in peril. In the meantime, thanks to Whaley’s 2014 draft maneuvers, the new owner might be looking toward the draft of 2016 to select a good college QB to lead the team on Don’t Get Me Started.
